Stonefruit Espresso

September 30, 2017

If there's something that NYC really knows how to do it well it's brunching. So many places and so little time to actually try them all. Lately I've been a little quiet when it comes to showing my brunches on Instagram but this place is impossible not to show you all. I stayed away from my typical avocado toast (that i miss so much) and had this amazing chia pudding with coconut milk, fruit and almonds on top. Stonefruit Espresso has been on my to try list for way too long, but Greenpoint can be a tough hike all the way form the Upper West Side. We adventured ourselves and we did not regret it at all.

I say no to bare walls

September 29, 2017

For those of you who follow me on instagram, who might have seen my famous bedroom wall.  Since I was a teenager I've had this tendency of filling my bedroom walls with pictures, souvenirs and prints. I just hate bare clean walls, I like them filled with life, color and images that remind me of great moments and that is exactly what this wall represents. Whenever I have friends visiting I take them to the Photo booth inside Forever 21 in Times square so I can a keep a strip as a souvenir of their trip and add it to my collection. These are the memories that I will keep forever.

As one of my latest buys I decided to invest more in prints. Time to leave the "teenage wall feeling" and actually turn it into something more organized and delicate. I spent a lot of hours browsing through Society 6 as it's a great resource to find amazing artists and had to control myself to not over do it. I decided on these eight prints that have finally arrived and cannot wait to see them up on the wall. (and yes that is a NYC picture that I just could not resist)

Eternal West Elm love

September 21, 2017

For the past couple of months I have been spending most of my free time in furniture stores, planning, measuring, taking pictures and saving ideas. Like I mentioned before, Pinterest is one of the best tools and I ended up creating a private album with all the pieces of furniture that I eventually want to invest in for my new place. This way I end up having what looks like a moodboard that allows me to keep the same style throughout the apartment. It also pretty much works as a wishlist that I am constantly updating as I come across new pieces that I love. The best part of it is that it does let me keep track of where the furniture is actually from since I can no longer rely on my brain cells to remember it all. And let's face it, there are so many stores available online here and in Europe that I tend to loose track of them all.

The good thing about living here is that we love our sales. I feel like the stores here really flood our emails with discount coupons and we also have the big sales during holiday weekends, so that way if you are not in a hurry at all you know you will be able to get a good price on that specific piece of furniture that you have been dreaming about. And that is exactly what I did in the beginning of this month.

And yes, at this point my bedroom is piled with boxes from West Elm with some of the stuff you can see on the pictures above. (enter desperate emoticon here)

Kitchen Inspiration

September 18, 2017

All pictures from Pinterest

There's this lack of interest when you are forced to live in rented apartments for the past eight years that do not allow you to even change the colors of your walls. I remember when I first moved to NYC the money spent in moving and rent forced me to have the bare minimum necessary to feel comfortable in my own home. As years went by and several apartments later, things started changing a bit and so did my interest in decor. Although I have not become my mother when it comes to pilling all the decor magazines in the world (specially AD), I actually take pleasure in strolling around Chelsea and discovering all the furniture stores in the area.

Lately, I have completely replaced my little to almost none interest in fashion or cosmetic brands with everything decor related since I have a new project in hands that is keeping me quite interested in the subject. I am renovating my apartment, the place that eventually I will be able to call home. Pinterest has been a great tool to get some inspirational ideas from.

I am starting with the kitchen partnering up with Koklatt to turn my ideas into reality. I love to cook and bake, so for me having a functional and amazing kitchen is the most important part of this renovation and I am pretty sure it will be the room I will end up investing the most. And although I will always have a crush for the farmhouse type of style, I am still too much in love with a more sleek and modern look. So for my kitchen I am going with white cabinets, open shelves, white marble counter tops and a lot of gold brass.

hello.

my name is ashley, and some of you may recognize me as aurevoir_ from instagram. so who i am? just a portuguese transplant living in new york city for the past eight years.  i'm a nurse during the day, dealing with oncology patients on a daily basis, let's just say that i wake them up from anesthesia. but although i enjoy what i do, my profession does not define who i am at all and it never will. i have a serious addiction to brunches and more specifically to avocado toasts and lattes. but let's just say this, i love everything related to food, including cooking it. i also have long lost love for photography, with it's ups and downs throughout the past couple of years as i feel that somehow i just got uninspired. and let's face it, i have a thing for new beginnings. this is not my first "blog" and i'm pretty sure it will not be my last. i am not a blogger, or whatever that concept means nowadays, and will never be. here you will only find the things that i love. i miss having a virtual space where i can just share what crosses my mind, or share the little things make inspire me on a daily basis. if only livejournal was as active as the blogger world is now. oh, well. above all, this will the corner where i can easily pour my heart out. i hope you will stay for a while. so grab your cup of tea and sit down with me.

a.
